Your morning brief: what needs you today
2 minute read
Every morning, Broidry looks over your board and sends you a short list of what needs you that day. You get it as a notification on your phone or computer and as an email, and both have the same list.
It is also the list at the top of your Today page, under the heading Needs you today. All three are one list: if the notification says four things need you, your Today page shows those same four. Clicking the notification opens the page.
Each item in the email tells you whose order it is, what is waiting, and what to do, with a link that opens that order. You can read it on your phone over breakfast and know whether anything has to happen before lunch, without signing in.
On a day when nothing needs you, no email goes out. That means your board is clear.
What shows up in it
The brief only lists things that are stuck, and the most urgent one is first. Anything with a date that is today or already past goes to the top, along with anyone who asked you something and has had no answer. Under that, the thing that has waited longest comes before the thing that is worth more, because the customer you have left waiting the longest is the one most likely to go elsewhere.
When three or more items say the same thing about different people, they arrive as one line with the count, the total and the names, so five customers you owe an answer read as one line instead of five copies of the same sentence.
- 1A customer message on an order that nobody has read yet, and any message flagged as a change to the order — those come first, so nothing stitches wrong.
- 2A customer who pressed "I've sent it" on a Venmo, PayPal, or cash payment that you have not confirmed yet.
- 3Someone who asked a question from your shop page and has not heard back.
- 4A quote you built and saved but never emailed, so the customer is waiting on a price they have never seen.
- 5An order that has been sitting with no price on it at all.
- 6A customer who has not answered on a color, a size, or a proof — and, when you have a way to reach them, a reminder already written for you.
- 7An order that ships in the next couple of days with no shipping label and no tracking number on it — unless you have said you buy that label somewhere else.
- 8A pickup coming up with money still owed on it, and any other order with a balance nobody has recorded a payment against.
- 9An email to a customer that bounced or never sent, so somebody is waiting on a reply they were never going to get.
- 10A thread or a garment running low, as one line with your shopping list behind it.
If you buy your shipping labels somewhere else
Plenty of shops buy every label on Etsy, on Pirate Ship, or straight from a carrier account. Broidry should not ask you every morning for a label you already bought elsewhere, so you can tell it not to.
For one order: open the order, find the Shipping card, and press "I buy this label somewhere else". That order stops appearing on your Today page and in your morning email, and the card tells you so. The button underneath it, "Buy this label in Broidry instead", puts the order back the way it was.
For every order: open your Pricing page, choose the Policies & shop details tab, and find the card called Shipping. Switch on "I buy my labels somewhere else" and press "Save shipping". No order asks you for a label after that, and any single order can still say otherwise on its own page.
An order marked Etsy already works this way, whichever setting you pick, because Etsy emails that buyer their own shipping notice.
Change the time, or turn it off
- 1Open your Pricing page and choose the Policies & shop details tab.
- 2Find the card called "Your morning brief."
- 3Pick the hour you want it in the "Send it at" box. It is your shop's own time, set by the Timezone card just above it — so set your timezone first if you have not.
- 4Press "Save morning brief."
- 5To stop it entirely, switch the toggle at the top of that card off and save. Nothing else changes: your orders, your notifications about new sales and payments, and your account emails all keep coming.
